McCOOK, Neb. — Officers were elected and newly elected board members were sworn in, at the regular McCook Board of Education meeting Monday night.

Taking the oath of office were recently elected members Mike Langan and Dennis Berry, as well as incumbent Loretta Hauxwell, who was re-elected.

Officers remained the same on the board as it has been, with Tom Bredvick, president, nominated by board member Brad Hays, with no other nominations; Teresa Thomas, vice president, nominated by Loretta Hauxwell with no other nominations; and Loretta Hauxwell, secretary, nominated by Thomas, again with no other nominations.

The board re-appointed business manager John Brazell as the treasurer and recording secretary.

Bredvick said he would be e-mailing new board members as to their preference for committee assignments and announce committee appointments at February’s meeting.

Also at Monday’s meeting, the board accepted the resignation of Lauren Miller, who’s been the agriculture teacher and FFA advisor for two years at the high school. Miller said in her resignation letter that she will be leaving at the end of the school year to expand the cattle operation Miller has with her husband.

Superintendent Grant Norgaard said Miller did an “outstanding job” and there were “no hard feelings” with her resignation.

The board also accepted the donation of a planer from Rick and Pam Klug, worth $700, for the industrial tech program. The planer in the industrial tech class was unable to be repaired so the donation is very appreciated, said MHS principal Jeff Gross.

Another donation, in the amount of $5,000 from Dollar General to Central Elementary, was accepted by the board, bringing the total amount of money donated to McCook Public Schools by Dollar General to $20,000. Four schools in the district - McCook Elementary, Central Elementary, McCook Junior High and McCook High School - each received $5,000 for the promotion of literacy.

Board president Tom Bredvick cited the organization’s generosity, with

Superintendent Norgaard commenting that he’d definitely be shopping more at Dollar General in the future. The store is also easy to get in and out of, added board vice president, Teresa Hauxwell.
