Veterans invited to McCook Elementary Nov. 9

Thursday, October 18, 2018

McCOOK, Neb. — McCook Elementary is inviting veterans to join them on Friday, Nov. 9 when the school celebrates Veterans Day.

Veterans Day is intended to thank and honor all those who have worn the uniform of the United States Armed Forces and to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated.

If you are a veteran, or have a veteran in your family that would be interested in coming to school to share, call the school at 344-4400 or send an email to Linda Wood ().   An assembly will start at 9 a.m. to recognize all veterans.  After the assembly, veterans who are willing are invited to visit with students in the classroom, speak about their experiences, share memorabilia, and answer questions. Veterans Day is more memorable for students if they actually meet people who are veterans and hear their personal stories.

This year, the school is accepting donations for items to be sent to soldiers who are fighting overseas in Afghanistan. Students may bring items to school, which will be presented during our Veterans Day program to the “Adopt-A-Chaplain” program coordinated by Mrs. Ann Trail.

For more information, please call McCook Elementary School (344-4400, Option #4) and ask for Linda Wood, Library Media Specialist or Greg Borland, Elementary principal.
