McCOOK, Neb. — Karen Kaye Dack, age 77, of McCook, passed away at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook on Friday, Sept. 28, 2018.

She was born in Littleton, Colo., on Oct. 7, 1940, to Gerald and Ida (Brown) Barratt. On Oct. 12, 1958, she was united in marriage to Richard Dack. He preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 2011.

The couple farmed southwest of McCook. Karen worked with Richard on the land they both loved. Her greatest joy in life was being a wife and mother and raising her girls. Karen always stayed busy and enjoyed many hobbies, including quilting, sewing, gardening and reading, as well as attending her grandchildren’s activities when they were in school. She was always active in her church, teaching Sunday School and VBS when her girls were young. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church and was currently teaching a lady’s Bible study. She taught her last Bible study last Thursday at the Hillcrest. She was known for her fantastic cooking and large portions. Her specialties were fried chicken and homemade bread. She was a 4-H leader and taught many girls how to cook and sew. She was a judge and superintendent at the county fair. She was also very involved in county extension.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; brother, John and wife, Myrna Barratt; three sisters: infant, Effa Jean Barratt, Geraldine “Deanie” and husband, Harold Anderson and Jackie and husband, Bill Johnson; son-in-law, Jim Fredrickson; and nephew, Jerry Barratt.

Karen is survived by her four daughters: Tammy Fredrickson of Selden, Kan., Lori and husband, Harold Pearson, Terri and husband, Mike Skolout and Kathy and husband, Todd Lichty, all of McCook; 10 grandchildren: Sunnie Jo Minium and husband, Cody, Morgan Neverve and husband, Brett, Chance Pearson, Jessica Fredrickson, Laykin Lichty, Spencer Skolout and fiancé, Hailey Bedore, Clayton Skolout, Luke Lichty, Ian Pearson and fiancé, Jamie Stewart, and Thatcher Skolout; two great-grandsons; brother, Jerry and wife, Eileen Barratt of Tecumseh, Neb.; and treasured sister-in-law, Barbara Grafel of McCook.

Funeral services will be at the Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Bruce Lester officiating on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery of McCook.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
