Christine Messinger Loshbaugh, MHS Wall of Fame inductee, has distinguished career in medical devices

McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook High School Student Council has selected the 2017-18 Alumni Wall of Fame inductee, Christine Messinger Loshbaugh from the Class of 1967.

Loshbaugh attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for two years, then the University of Connecticut for a bachelor’s of art and a microbiology degree with high distinction, graduating in 1972. She earned her MBA from Pepperdine University in 1982.

She’s been manager and director for several major manufacturers of health care products.

Some of the contributions she’s made to the profession of improved sterilization processes and effectiveness of life-saving medical devices include:

-Researched, wrote and published a key reference article for microbiological aspects of ethylene oxide sterilization, which was published for education of the professional community in the Food and Drug Administration’s “Sterile Medical Device Good Manufacturing Practices” Manual.

-Led a team which engineered and developed a totally new method of implantable heart valve terminal sterilization, resulting in improvements in valve sterility assurance and concurrently increasing durability, which improves the quality of patient care. This development has a patent application pending for Christina and Baxter Healthcare, Irvine, Calif.

-Developed and implemented innovative approaches to Sterilization Parametric Release for critical medical devices for renal and cardiovascular therapy, using two different technologies: liquid chemical sterilization and moist heat steam sterilization of dry devices. These approaches resulted in greater process control, as well as significant productivity and cost benefits for the healthcare community. The unique method of Parametric process control was presented to worldwide authorities for critical device regulation, where it has been rapidly accepted and acknowledged, and is on the leading edge for the industry.

-Validation Testing methods have been developed for areas including antimicrobial device materials, sterile barrier materials, and safety of water – damaged materials. Contributions are being made to the healthcare manufacturing industry through presentation of various innovative testing and sterilization approaches to industry association and technical group meetings.

She is married to Richard A Loshbaugh, another McCook High School grad, and they have a daughter, Barbara.
