Arapahoe Invite

ARAPAHOE, Neb. -- Four area teams competed at Saturday’s Arapahoe Invite.

Host Arapahoe had two champions on the day to help the Warriors finish a Gazette-best fifth place.

Isaac Goshert won the 106 weight class, while Tyler Kapperman had five victories-- including two over 32-match winner Dustin Klingsporn of Axtell -- to win 120.

John Lee (145) and Shane Sieja (113) placed third in their respective divisions for the Warriors, while Jonah Shimmin (126), Fryderyk Sitnik (138) and Branigan Schaben (160) placed fifth.

Hitchcock County had a trio of runner-up performances to pace the Falcons to a sixth-place finish.

Joel Priest (132), Noah Standiford (138) and Alex Stehno (220) all took second, while Zach Janousek (120) finished third after losing a tough championship bracket match to Klingsporn.

Cambridge brought three wrestlers to Saturday’s invite and finished ninth as a team. Zack Miller took second at 126, while Keegan Benson (170) and Michael Jaeger (285) both finished third.

Wauneta-Palisade rounded out Gazette team scores with a 12th-place finish. The Broncos’ lone wrestler, Willis Chritner, placed seventh at 160.

Norton, Kan., ran away with the team title by scoring 229.5 points. Elwood was a distant second with 110.5 points and Elm Creek was third with 108.

Warcat Invite

RED CLOUD, Neb. -- Southwest took second at Saturday’s Warcat Invitational held at Red Cloud High School.

The Roughriders were led by first-place performances at 126, 195, 220 and 285.

Kaden Guerrero improved to 31-5 with four wins at 126. Two of his wins came over 30+ match winners in Joseph Hinrich of Sutton (34-8 record) and Keegan Casey of Thayer Central (33-2).

Logan Kircher (32-9) won five matches at 285 to place first. All five of his victories came by pin fall.

Anthony Starr (28-4) won the 220 weight class with four pin falls. Cody Downey (33-6) won all three of his matches at 195 by way of pin fall as well.

Southwest had four third-place finishers. Simon Moore (106) went 1-1 in his weight class, while Matthew Van Pelt (138) finished 3-2 in his. Wyatt McConville (160) was 3-1.

Bryson Shoemaker (285) also finished third but did not score any points for the Roughriders due to Kircher’s better finish in the division.

Cole Downey (145) and Harley Remington (182) both finished sixth for Southwest.

The Roughriders scored 120 points to take silver. Sutton finished first with 156.5 points, while Thayer Central was third with 114.

Central Valley Invite

GREELEY, Neb. -- Cambridge finished third at Friday’s Central Valley Invite.

Matthew Pearson (182) and Tyler Schultz (285) had top performances for the Trojans, as those two won their respective weight classes.

Seth Andrews (220) had a runner-up finish, while Shane Horwart (106) and Kaden Benson (152) both finished third.

Other Cambridge finishes included Bobby Evans (160) finishing fourth, Zack Miller (126) and Keegan Benson (170) finishing fifth and Clay Sayer (120) and Michael Jaeger (285) finishing seventh.

The Trojans finished the tough, 15-team field with 133.5 points to take bronze in the team standings. Palmer won the invite with 149.5 points, and narrowly edged out runner-up Neligh/Oakdale’s 147.
