Duane Lashley

Aug. 27, 1936 - Dec. 1, 2017

CORVALLIS, Ore. — Duane Lashley passed away on Dec. 1, 2017, peacefully, with his family by his side.

Duane was born in McCook, Neb., on Aug. 27, 1936. He married his high school sweetheart, Lyl Crocker, and they moved to Corvallis soon after. Here they raised four children, Cyndi, Dan, Ted, and Laurie on their mini-farm. Duane and Lyl tried to replicate a small version of a Nebraska farm by helping their children raise every kind of farm animal they could think of, as well as tend an orchard and a large garden.

Duane owned and operated Northgate Chevron, a service station on the corner of 9th and Grant, for 30 years. Upon his retirement, he opened Duane’s Auto Maintenance from his home to continue serving his loyal customer base. Despite many health challenges, he spent his retirement years putting his woodworking skills to use for others. His work graces the homes of his children, grandchildren, and friends. He helped them remodel and build their homes, and he built furniture and beautiful decorative items made of wood.

His family was very important to him. He was always involved with his children and their friends, and eventually grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many big family gatherings were held annually throughout the years, at his home or his kids’ homes. The gatherings usually involved a work party, a big meal, and lots of fun. He believed in hard work, and no excuses. He was a fairly quiet man; he spoke softly and with few words. So when he spoke in a conversation, others listened.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Hazel (Blake) Lashley; sister, Laree Meissner; and brothers, Wilbur and Bill.

He is survived by his wife, Lyl; his four children and their spouses; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two more great-grandchildren on the way; his Nebraska family: brothers, Larry and wife, Jeniene, Randy and wife, Carol; sister, Sandy Morris, and sister-in-law, Darlene Lashley, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private family celebration of life will be at a later date. The family wishes to thank Samaritan Evergreen Hospice for their tender care of Duane and the family. Donations in Duane’s memory can be made to Evergreen Hospice: AGH Foundation (attn: hospice house), 1046 6th Ave SW, Albany, OR, 97321.
