City plans to hear presentation on options for swimming pool
McCOOK, Neb. — City leaders are hoping to receive a presentation from a contracted aquatic engineering firm later this month that will provide options for a potential upgrade or replacement of the city swimming pool.
During last night’s meeting of the McCook City Council, City Manager Nate Schneider said he had been working with Public Works Director Kyle Potthoff, Pool Manager Jody Crocker and City Attorney Nate Mustion on the project and was hopeful the presentation could be scheduled before the end of the year and was looking forward to it.
“Kyle and Jody and Nathaniel and I — we’re working on an engineering contract with Larkin Aquatics. They are an engineering firm that the pool board is going to recommend that we bring forward. We’re hoping to try to get a presentation, maybe, at the Dec. 18 council meeting. They may not be able to make it out, and do it by telephone, but I told them I would like to try to get something here before the end of the year just to begin the discussion,” said Schneider.
The city-organized pool committee was tasked with helping determine the future of the city swimming pool and heard presentations back in January from four engineering firms, as well as a construction company, pertaining to pool design, construction, fundraising and other aspects.
“During our discussion, it was reiterated that a ballot question would be submitted to a vote of the people, should a decision be made to remodel our pool or construct a new pool,” said city staff in a scheduled report to City Council following the presentations.
