McCOOK, Neb. — Eleanor Joyce Herman of McCook, formerly of Culbertson, passed away Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, at Hillcrest Nursing Home, McCook. She was 86 years old.

Eleanor was born on March 14, 1931, at McCook to parents, Roy A. and Ruth (Miner) Ninemires. As a young child she was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church, McCook. She was later confirmed on May 28, 1944, and remained a faithful Christian of the Lutheran faith for the rest of her life. She graduated from McCook High School on May 22, 1949.

On June 26, 1949, she was united in marriage to William C. “Bill” Herman at Peace Lutheran. They made their home in Culbertson where they raised their two daughters, Nancy and Julie.

Eleanor was a busy mother and homemaker. She was also a para at Culbertson Schools for many years. She eventually helped her husband in their business they purchased in 1986, Rancher’s Lumber Yard, where she helped with the books until they retired in 1996.

Eleanor was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Altar Society and helped with the cleaning. She was also a member of the extension club “Double Four.” Eleanor and Bill enjoyed wintering in Bullhead City, Ariz., for many years. She enjoyed baking, ceramics, and spending time with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Roy and Ruth Ninemires; her husband, Bill, on March 21, 2015; son-in-law, Jim Mockry; and brothers-in-law, Richard Klein and Robert Strong.

Survivors include her daughters, Nancy and husband, Jerry Kautz of Culbertson and Julie Mockry of McCook; sister, Barbara Klein of McCook; sisters-in-law, Jean and husband, Gerald Beideck of McCook and Hope Strong of Culbertson; grandchildren, Monica (Michael) Beckett of Albuquerque, N.M., Levi (Loralee) Kautz of Bennett, Colo., Chris (Kelli) Kautz of Norfolk, Justin (Chara) Kautz of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Colette (Travis) Balderston of McCook, Stacey Brown of Omaha, Jamie (Theresa) Mockry, Cynthia (Jessie) Carlisle and Caitlyn Mockry, all of McCook; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Pearson of Omaha, Logan (Brittani) Pearson of McCook, Makayla (Josh) Dailey of Lincoln, Sydni Kautz, Seth Kautz and Hailee Smith, all of Bennett, Colo., Dylan, Taylor and Mason Kautz, all of Norfolk, Oliva Kautz of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Desarae, Ashlyn, and Rylie Balderston, all of McCook, Lane Brown, Kylee Brown, and Joslyn Rivera, all of Gibbon, Aaron, Anita and James Mockry, all of McCook, and Callie and Gunner Carlisle of McCook; four great-great-grandchildren, Addison Pearson of Omaha and Aidyn, Asher and Emmett Pearson, all of McCook; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.

Memorials may be given in her name to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Hillcrest Nursing Home.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Friends may go online at www.herrmannfh.com to extend condolences to the family.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Culbertson with Pastor Bradley Rick officiating. Burial will follow in the Culbertson Cemetery.
