Ace Hardware franchise buys JCPenney building

Tuesday, September 26, 2017

McCOOK, Neb. — Ace Hardware is officially coming to McCook, after a franchisee acquired the vacated JCPenney’s building on West C Street earlier this week.

The ownership group hopes to have the McCook location up and running by end of this or early next year. McCook will become the fourth Ace Hardware the group operates, according to representative Dallas Madsen. The franchise group already has operations in Yuma and Wray, Colorado, as well as a third in Ogallala, Nebraska.

Madsen indicated the group had been looking and patiently waiting for the right property to become available in the McCook area for some six and a half years now.

Rick Sinner of McCook will be the store manager for the new hardware store. Sinner and his wife relocated to McCook from Ogallala recently, where he worked for Ace Hardware. He is originally from the Scottsbluff-Mitchell, Nebraska, area.

“For Sale” signs from listing agent Gateway Realty of McCook, installed on the front of the former JCPenney building, announced the “SOLD” status early Monday. Ace Hardware officials were busily papering up windows by Monday afternoon.

  • Welcome to McCook! Hope this will save folks from the 150round trip to Menards. Thanks to the MEDC that helped land Ace.

  • It sure would be nice to be able to purchase plywood on a Sunday instead of having to drive to Menards.

At least one of the hardware stores in town that sells lumber needs to be open on Sundays, even if only for a few hours. That would save a lot of Sunday trips to Menards!

  • Perhaps one should plan ahead lest being forced to swim upstream in a flood.

That said, welcome ACE, we're always pleased to have an addition to our McCook Family.
