Bison race against competitive Class B field at UNK Invite

KEARNEY, Neb. -- The McCook Bison finished 14th as a team at Monday’s UNK Invite at the Kearney Country Club.

Riley Mai led the Bison runners with a 38th-place finish with a time of 17:54.92. Steve Hinze was 56th with an 18:08.53 while Eric Graff, McCook’s third-best runner, was 59th with an 18:11.61.

Other Bison to run at Kearney Monday were Isaac Hegwood (73rd, 18:29.02), T.J. Renner (74th, 18:30.09) and Carson Richards (177th, 20:11.65).

Winning the Class B boys’ race was Luke Stuckey of York, who ran a 16:28.18. He beat out Gering’s Logan Moravec (16:41.92) and Omaha Skutt freshman Ryan Zavadil (16:42.47) for the gold medal. Sidney’s Collin Brauer, who won the McCook Invite earlier this season, finished eighth with a 17:00.65.

In the team standings, Omaha Skutt took first place with 47 points. Plattsmouth finished a distant second with 95 and Lexington was third with 110. The Sky Hawks had four top-17 runners to win the team title by 48 points. McCook was 14th with 223 points.

Kuenne leads Longhorns

Chase County’s Will Kuenne ran a 17:49.65 to finish 10th overall in the Class C boys’ race.

The Longhorns’ Kalen Wallin (78th, 19:33.44) was the only other Chase County runner to place in the top-100. The Class C boys field featured 243 participants.

Winning the individual race was Hartington’s Brian Santiago, who ran a 16:42.98. Miden’s Aidan Wheelock was a close second with 16:44.22.

Chase County finished 16th as a team with 303 points. Holdrege won the team title with 38 points, while Douglas County West was second with 98.

On the girls’ side, Kaley Hauxwell finished just outside the medaling places with her 16th-place time of 21:06.47. Maddison Brown’s 22:11.79 was good enough for 33rd.

Ogallala’s Luci McKeag took the girls’ individual title with a time of 19:39.03. She beat a pair of Fort Calhoun runners, Taya Skelton and Avery McKennan, for first.

As a team, Chase County was 15th. Adams Central (93 points) narrowly beat Holdrege (94), Columbus Scotus (95), Fort Calhoun (95) and Hartington (98) for the team title.
