RIVERTON, Wyo. — Signing for a wrong score doomed one team while a 1-2 finish powered McCook Community College’s golfers to the Central Wyoming Invite team title last weekend.

Freshman Cameron Lampe shot a tournament best 73 on the first day, while Colton Zulkoski was two strokes behind with a 75 for second place overall.

Due to too much standing water on the course from heavy rain, day two of the CWC Invite was cancelled.

The Indians stood second behind Eastern Wyoming College by one stroke with a team score of 310 in the first round.

However, an Eastern Wyoming player was disqualified after signing for a wrong score, moving the Indians into first place for the tournament.

Freshman Ronnie Quick fired an 80, sophomore Brady Rogers 82 and McCook Bison alum/freshman Kade Gray finished at 87 to complete McCook’s winning team score.

Sophomore Kaleb Wonderly from Benkelman played as an individual and scored 86.

Coach Tyler Loop praised his group after the win.

“The freshmen are starting to get a good feel for college golf and what type of scoring it takes, and our sophomores are showing great leadership,” Loop remarked. “They are all meshing well together and it looks to be a very competitive year within our region.”

The MCC golf team will compete on Thursday and Friday to Sterling, Colo., in the Northeastern Junior College Invite.

McCook will be hosting the MCC Invite Sept. 28-29 at Heritage Hills.
