Roland Richard “Dick” Hancock

LINCOLN, Neb. — Roland Richard “Dick” Hancock, 86, died Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2017). 

He was born Aug. 23, 1931, in Loup City, Neb., to Ernest and Ruth (Robinson) Hancock.  He grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa and served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Manatee during the Korean War from 1949 to 1952.  He worked for Union Pacific Railroad after his service in the Navy.  In 1967, he was hired by CB & Q Railroad which later became Burlington Northern. He and his family formerly lived in McCook, Neb., and he retired from Burlington Northern in 1989. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rachel Johnson; and brothers, Ernest “Bud” Hancock, Jr. and Robert Hancock, Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Ginny of Lincoln; children, Sheryl (Chuck) Wendt of Woodbine, Iowa, Shelley (Bob, Jr.) Farber of Lincoln and Mark Hancock of Kittredge, Colo; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren

 Services are Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, 10:30 a.m., at Butherus Maser and Love Funeral Home, 4040 A St, Lincoln.  Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Burial with Military Honors is at Cedar Lawn cemetery in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
