McCOOK, Neb. — District 44 State Sen. Dan Hughes will be in McCook Tuesday morning for back-to-back visits with the public at the Bieroc Cafe.

The McCook Area Chamber of Commerce is coordinating a “Town Talk” with Sen. Hughes beginning at 9 a.m. at the Norris Avenue cafe. The monthly Coffee with a Cop meeting will follow at 10 a.m. with Sen. Hughes as the featured guest.

The recently concluded 2017 legislative session was Sen. Hughes third session since taking office in 2015 on a four-year term. He indicated recently he was disappointed with the lack of significant property tax relief this session but optimistic towards future progress.

Six of Sen. Hughes’ 11 introduced bills became law this session. The adopted legislation covered a broad range of issues, including reductions to public notification periods for budgets submitted by governing bodies; requiring public entities to provide suitable accommodations for state auditor employees when appropriate; amending loan forgiveness details for the Department of Environmental Quality; providing the Nebraska Brand Committee with the ability to conduct teleconference meetings; extending reassessment authority for second class cities and villages; and a bill exempting oil, gas or mineral leases from requirements to file a statement with the register of deeds.
