Bruce Crosby/McCook Gazette

Good families know their story — good and bad — and McCook is a good family, headline storyteller Kim Weitkamp, top left, told a packed Bieroc Cafe during a Buffalo Commons preview Thursday evening. The humorist, singer, songwriter and entrepreneur will be featured throughout the weekend of activities. Buffalo Commons official Cloyd Clark presented storyteller awards to volunteers Bruce and Cathy McDowell, above, and Dr. Charles Peek, top right, McCook native, long-time speaker and Episcopal priest. Peek noted that McCook poet, Ginny Odenbach, center photo above, was among four finalists during the last selection of Nebraska State Poet. Other speakers and performers include Buffalo Bill expert Jeff Barnes, right, Chuck Salestrom, above center, author and weather expert Joy Hayden, above left, and singer-songwriter Ginger ten Bensel, second row, above left. The Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen bluegrass band, below, performs at the Bieroc Cafe, High Plains Museum and Fox TheatrE. A complete schedule is available at buffalocommons.org.
