McCOOK, Neb. — A 51-point win at Sidney should have the McCook track and field boys bringing plenty of momentum into Friday’s LeRoy Hoehner Invitational.

Competition is set to begin at 1 p.m. with Holdrege, Cambridge, Lexington, Southern Valley, Dundy County-Stratton and Colby, Kan., all scheduled to compete.

The Bison stormed through their first outdoor invite of 2017 in Sinday.

They tallied 149 points to finish 51 better than those top challenger Sidney Red Raiders with 98.

Other familiar Class B foes like Gering (85 points), Ogallala (72) and Alliance (23) finished even farther behind.

He also won the 100-meter dash while Steven Hinze took first among 3200-meter runners, D.J. Gross won both power throws (shot put, discus) and Josh Carter soared to a pole vault title.

Bison relays also delivered dominant performances.

McCook’s girls were only five points from winning its team title race. The Bison tallied 104 points to outscore eight other teams, yet Gering finished first with 107.

Other teams competing: Gothenburg (76), Sidney (74), Ogallala (49), Alliance (42), Chadron (41), Gordon-Rushville (16) and Hyannis (8).

“Our Division I athletes performed at a higher level than I expected as did our Division 2 athletes,” coach Brent May commented.
