Wayne Leroy Dodot

Aug. 11, 1926 - Feb. 28, 2017

TRENTON, Neb. -- Wayne Leroy Dodot, 90, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Hospital after an accident.

Wayne was a man who measured your character on your handshake and his word was his bond. He believed one should do what you say and say what you mean.

He is survived by a daughter, Janet; his grandchildren, Daniel (Breena), Jerry, Michelle, and Nicole; and his great-grandchildren Samuel, Cora, Paul, Derek, Kevin, Shawn, Austin, Hunter, and Oakley.

Wayne is preceded in death by his wife, Doris; son, Rodney; parents, John and Minnie; granddaughter, Desirae; and great-granddaughter, Ashlee.

Wayne was born and raised in McCook, Neb. While he did enjoy a brief time living in Colorado, he always considered Nebraska home and moved back to Nebraska to live the good life. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Prairie as a Ship's Service Man B Third Class.

In 1947 he began a long career with Burlington Northern Railroad until his retirement in 1989. When not working, he could be found tending his garden and yard. In their retirement, he and his wife, Doris, enjoyed traveling across the U.S. in their 5th wheel trailer and to the Bahamas. He also enjoyed brewing (and drinking) his own beer and wine.

His love of fishing and the outdoors was something he passed down to his grandson, Dan and great-grandson, Sam.

Wayne requested a private memorial service which will be held at a later date. His grandson, Dan, wishes to thank all those that cared for him over the last four months at El Dorado Manor.

Arrangements were provided by Herrmann-Jones Funeral Home in McCook.
