Indians bring unbeaten record into new year

Thursday, January 5, 2017

No more holiday breaking or putting brakes on a conference winning streak if the McCook Community College men have their way this weekend.

The Indians (8-4 record) are 3-0 against league foes entering 2017. They tip off the new year with two huge home games against Eastern Wyoming College Friday night (7:30 p.m.) and Western Nebraska Community College Saturday afternoon (4 p.m.).

McCook Community College's women also captured eight wins before the break (8-6 overall, 2-1 conference) and they will play a Friday 5:30 p.m. also against Eastern Wyoming.

So the Peter & Dolores Events Center will be filled with plenty of hoops tipping off this first full weekend of 2017.

Eastern Wyoming's men have slid the wrong way to 10 consecutive defeats since defeating Montana Western at Snow College, Utah, on Nov. 11.

Yet the visitors (2-12 record overall) have still been entertaining and high-scoring, losing a 109-108 overtime contest to Trinidad (Colo.) last month.

Western Nebraska's been streaking properly with five consecutive wins entering this weekend.

The Cougars (9-5 overall) also shouldn't be rusty after playing on Monday and winning 84-73 over Northwest Kansas Tech at Goodland, Kan.

Both games should be a good test for the McCook Indians, who did drop their last game going into Christmas against Northeastern (Colo.) Junior College by a 100-77 final count.

McCook still boasts the junior college nation's No. 7 scorer in freshman D'Von Moore, who's averaging 23.6 points per game.
