Falcon girls top Southwest
TRENTON, Neb. --With 10 Falcons hitting shots, Hitchcock County's girls were ready to restart their winning ways as they scored a 51-41 win over Southwest Tuesday evening.
Senior Brooke Scott's 14 points fueled the Falcon victory. Both she and classmate Aubrey Wagner hit a three-pointer while the Falcons' 10-6 lead through one quarter more than doubled to 30-14 by halftime.
There was certainly no class discrimination during this run.
Freshmen Kass Kisker and Zoey Hillis stepped up to score four points apiece.
Sophomore Allison Hoytalso hit shotsin all four quarters to help the victory quest.
The Falcons (4-6 overall) started this season with two big Cattle Trail Tournament wins -- including a one-point semifinal thriller over Wauneta-Palisade.
Wins have been rather elusive since then until Tuesday's first game of 2017.
Southwest (also 4-6) didn't surrender easily especially senior Isabella Ryan, whose 17 points were a game high.
Ryan's eight third-quarter points helped the Roughriders stay within range at 42-30.
Yet the Falcons' balanced attack would finish this win. Scott scored six more points to lead the clinching fourth quarter.
