Madaline Evelyn Groves

McCOOK, Neb. -- Madaline Evelyn Groves of McCook passed away Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at Community Hospital. She was 96 years old.

Madaline was born to Timothy and Edna (Wilson) DeWayne at Stockville, Neb. Madaline graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1938. On Oct. 26, 1940, she was united in marriage to Kenneth G.W. Groves. To this union three children were born, Karen, Fred and Kenneth.

Madaline was a busy mother and homemaker but found time to work outside the home. She cooked and baked at various businesses including the West Sale Barn and Red Horse Motel and baked cakes for special occasions. She also worked at TRW.

She was a member of Garden Prairie Church and Garden Prairie Extension Club. She loved to play cards, especially pinochle, quilt, crochet, watch the turkeys and deer, and hosting large family dinners. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and following all of their activities.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Timothy and Edna DeWayne; her husband, Kenneth Groves; and infant son, Lenus Groves; siblings, Thelma Albrecht, Ruth Groves, Dorothy Propp, Edith Alexander, and Timothy DeWayne.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen and husband, Reinke "Gene" Meints of McCook; sons, Fred S. Groves and Kenneth G. Groves and wife, Becky, all of McCook; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, 9 a.m. -- 8 p.m. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel, McCook. Friends may go online at www.herrmannfh.com to extend condolences to the family.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, 2 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alisa Parde officiating. Burial will be in the Garden Prairie Cemetery, rural McCook, Nebraska.
