Dolyn D. Brown, Sr.

Jan. 1, 1938 - Sept. 26, 2016

CULBERTSON, Neb. -- Dolyn D. Brown, Sr. passed away Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, at his home in Culbertson after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 78 years old.

Dolyn was born on Jan. 1, 1938, at McCook, Neb., to parents, Hamer and Blanche Margaret (Rippen) Brown. He graduated from Culbertson High School in 1955, where he was active in all sports.

He entered the U.S. Air Force after graduation in 1955, where he served as an avionic system technician. He would serve his country for the next 20 years, when he was honorably discharged in May 1975.

Dolyn was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Sitzman on Feb. 19, 1956, at Culbertson and would set up home where the USAF stationed them. They would return back to Culbertson upon Dolyn's retirement from the Air Force. Dolyn worked at several occupations before his retirement.

He was a member of the American Legion, Adam Miller Post 133 and the Retired Enlisted Airman. When Dolyn wasn't working, he enjoyed going for rides in his pickup, golfing, fishing, and following his children and grandchildren through the many sports they participated in. He was an avid Husker and Air Force football fan. He spent countless hours in his garden raising vegetables that he shared with friends and family and doing yard work for himself and others until his health would no longer permit him.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Hamer and Blanche Brown.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara Brown of Culbertson; his children, Janell (Yancey) Hartzer of Culbertson, Dolyn (Penny) Brown, II. of Valley, Brett (Kristin) Brown of Dallas, Texas, and Melinda (Bryce) Felker of McCook; sister, Joylyn Ross of Culbertson; eight grandchildren, Dustin, Corin (Wyatt), Dolyn III, Allyx (Derek), Nicki (Adam), Blake, Madison, and Hunter; and two great-grandchildren, Haley and Jude.

Memorials may be given in his name.

It was Dolyn's wish to be cremated. The family will have a time of memories and sharing with friends and family on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m.

Herrmann- Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.
