Week 3 football previews

Thursday, September 8, 2016

Can a "bye" week help Arapahoe's Warriors break the mighty Blue Hill Bobcats?

Will Southwest finish where Cambridge fell short and upset the No. 2 Perkins County Plainsmen?

Does Medicine Valley mean poison for Dundy County or does a Crocodlie Dundee old-school attitude tear up the Raiders' unbeaten record?

Those are only three games of area high school football season's week three were every team except the Cambridge Trojans will be seeking victory.

The Trojans take a break until Sept. 16 after scoring 66 points against Decatur Community, Kan., last week.

Now the area's highest scoring team -- Arapahoe and 72 points in an opening win-- faces a fearsome Blue Hill squad that has permitted only three TDs in two big wins.

Medicine Valley's also been awesome with 68 and 48-point efforts -- but Dundy County's had two weeks to get ready since an opening loss at Alma.

Meanwhile, Chase County (2-0) brings the most dominant 'D' average of six points allowed TOTAL into Friday's home game against Gothenburg Swedes (1-1).

The Longhorns will likely get their toughest test. Gothenburg edged Holdrege, 17-14, last week and pushed a strong Ogallala team for four quarters before fall- ing 42-35 two weeks ago.

Southwest (1-1) takes momentum and confidence into Perkins County (2-0). The Roughriders rumbled through Overton, 36-20, last week.

Other top matchups feature Rawlins County (1-0) traveling to play perennial Kansas eight-man powerhouse Wallace County (0-1).
