McCOOK, Neb. -- A McCook man responsible for a lock down at Community Hospital earlier this year received jail time last week on a misdemeanor charge stemming from the incident.

The man, 25-year-old Anthony S. Heflin, was sentenced to 180 days in jail and received credit for 102 days already served during a July 11 hearing in Red Willow County District Court. Hefin was originally facing a Class 3A felony alleging he made terroristic threats and accepted a plea agreement admitting guilt to a Class I misdemeanor indicating he threatened another in a menacing manner. Heflin's court costs were also waived at sentencing.

According to court documents, Heflin approached a Community Hospital staff member on March 24, 2016, inquiring about visiting a friend in the hospital before saying he was armed and wanted to harm people. At one point he told the receptionist she should call the police and he would kill one of the officers, in addition to making other threats and ranting about bloodshed.

Heflin's behavior caused the hospital to perform lock down procedures for multiple days in order to protect staff and patients, according to investigators.
