McCOOK, Neb. -- Six McCook Community College student/athletes were selected by their respective coaches to be recognized for the 2015-2016 academic year as Athletes of the Year in their individual sports.

They were Garret Christiansen, baseball, Las Vegas; Makuei "Peter" Puondak, basketball, Sydney, Australia; Brad Hill, Golf, Hednesford, England; Chante Church, women's basketball, Rifle, Colo.; Mackenzie Bilger, softball, Boise, Idaho; Shaela Jenkins, volleyball; Dalton, Neb.

From these six outstanding athletes, who were also successful students in the classroom, the MCC Indians Boosters selected the overall male and female athletes for the year. This special recognition was awarded to Brad Hill and Chante Church.

"Brad has been a joy to be around the last 2 years and I think he will leave a lasting mark on MCC in general," praises McCook Community College Golf coach Tyler Loop about his star sophomore player Brad Hill. "Even though he works really hard on his golf game he is also able to keep up above a 3.0 grade average." Hill was selected as a second Team NJCAA Division 1 Ping All-American and a member of the NJCAA Ping All-District 1 Team. The sophomore from England was a big part of MCC's NJCAA Men's Golf Championship qualifying team this year, with 7 individual victories throughout the fall and spring and had the lowest overall score throughout the year, giving him the Player of the Year honors.

"One can make the argument that Chante Church is one of the most decorated athletes to ever wear a McCook Community College uniform, especially in recent memory," stated former MCC Lady Indians Basketball Coach Jon Froelich when submitting his selection for Athlete of the Year. Church was the centerpiece on a team that established a school record for wins in a season with a 29-4 record capturing a conference championship along the way. At the conclusion of her sophomore season the Rifle, Colorado product is the school record holder for points in a game, a season and a career at MCC, finishing her career with 1,256 points.
