Registration deadline Monday

McCOOK, Neb. -- The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming Primary Election is 6 p.m. on Monday, May 2.

The 2016 Primary Election is on May 10 and includes two or less contested tickets on each ballot.

The Republican ballot includes five presidential candidates; Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, John R. Kasich, Marco Rubio and Donald J. Trump. The ballot includes two candidates for Public Service Commissioner District 5; Jerry Vap and Mary Ridder.

The Democratic ballot includes two presidential candidates; Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.

The Libertarian ballot includes five presidential candidates; Marc Feldman, Gary Johnson, Steve Kerbel, John McAfee and Austin Petersen.

Voters residing within McCook city limits will also be asked to vote for or against an amendment to the McCook Economic Development Program. The goals of the amended program remain the same as the city's program expiring in 2018 and would extend the program until June 30, 2033, according to the ballot language. The program is funded by 1/6 of the one-and-a-half percent sales tax collected by the city.
