Hundreds of students compete, place at Inter-High Day
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- The results are in for the annual Inter-High Day hosted by North Platte Community College on Wednesday. Hundreds of students from area high schools turned out for the event and competed in both academic and technical trade categories.
"A total of 642 tests were given to approximately 450 students," said Kelly Rippen, Mid-Plains Community College area dean of enrollment management. "Overall, I would have to say the event was a huge success. There were 30 schools represented, 19 of which had students place in the top three, and Leyton High School attended for the first time."
The three highest scoring individuals in each test area received up to three credit hours of free tuition for upcoming summer or fall classes. The first place winners in each category also received a $500 scholarship good for classes at Mid-Plains Community College. Those scholarships can be accumulated from year to year.
Academic winners took home medals, while technical trade winners received prizes such as NPCC embroidered coats and tool sets that applied to their particular test areas. Schools got points based on how many winners they had. The top three point earners in each division were given trophies and received a $500 scholarship to award to a student of the school's choice.
