Time for change in the Muslim world?

Tuesday, December 15, 2015

Today we learn a new word. It is "Deobandi" the name of a fundamentalist Islamic group. In the news we hear of young Muslims that have been "radicalized" and then come to Christian America and Europe to perform terroristic deeds in the name of Allah. Little do we hear of it but those fundamentalists also are committing the same kinds of atrocities against their fellow Muslims whom they deem not true believers as followers of Muhamad.

In truth, this long-time Christian believer has not paid much attention to the Islamic world. For me Muslims inhabit countries that are far away and in general are simply not a part of the sphere of the world in which I live. Yes, I rarely encounter persons in Islamic dress in America and privately wonder what they are about, and ask myself why do they want to set themselves apart from normal Americans?

Our world has changed. Young Muslim men hijacked our airliners and flew them into the World Trade Centers and Pentagon in an act of jihad--new word for us. To retaliate we went to war in Afghanistan to punish the followers of Osama bin Laden, a group calling themselves Al-Qaeda, who claimed responsibility for the events on 9-11. We are still there. We went to war in Kuwait to help the Saudis kick the invading forces of Iraq's Saddam Hussein back to their home country. Then we went to war in Iraq to rid them of their dictator. We won that one only to have our current president give that victory away and the mess continues with the ascend of an even worse bunch we know as ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) or ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) as President Obama prefers. Same thing only different.

Who then are these followers of Muhammad that are causing so much consternation? There are some 1.2 billion Muslims in the world today. About 90% call themselves Sunni and are the majority in most Islamic countries outside of Iran, Iraq, Yemen, and Bahrain. Another major faction are Shia and the center of their power is Iran. Note, President Obama's closest advisor Valery Jarrett is Shia. A subset of the Sunni are the Wahhabi mainly in Saudi Arabia and Syria. The Wahhabis advocate a return to the early Islam of the Koran and Sunna and reject later innovations. Note the restrictions on women who are not allowed to drive and have to be completely covered at all times when in public.

It then is from the stricter fundamentalist Wahhabi that comes the Deobandi movement in creating ISIS. They obviously have dreams of punishing all us infidels defined as Christians and anybody else not believing as they do. Their dream is world domination in the same way early Muslim hordes conquered most of Europe. We'll put up with it for awhile and then will turn on them and stomp out their evil ways much as the Christians did during the Crusades.

Presidential aspirant Donald Trump recently invoked the wrath of liberals and many conservatives by stating that America needs to put a temporary halt to all Muslims coming to the United States. Not a bad idea in my opinion but it doesn't address the bad apples already living here. Case in point native born jihadist Syed Rizwan Farook who with his imported wife Tashfeen Malik shot, killed and wounded the innocents in San Bernardino, California. Turns out that Farook's Riverside Mosque was affiliated with the Deobandi movement. Good place to look and shut down if guilty.

Muslims in America come from and have connections with a multitude of countries overseas. Each country's teaching and practice of their Muslim faith which includes religion and ideology but through dictates of Sharia law also directs choice of food, clothing, marriage, legal system and more. Sharia is not at all compatible with our system of laws in America and cannot be tolerated.

If our American government had any starch they would prosecute to the full extent of the law any Muslim that practices jihad on our soil. Then our government should trace back to the country from which the perp came and put sanctions on that country. For instance Tashfeen Malik emigrated from Saudi Arabia. The Saudi government grows rich from exporting oil to the US. Cut them off. We have enough oil in this country to sustain our economy. Presently most of the Arab/Muslim countries receive foreign aid from us. One of their people commits heinous acts against their neighbors on our soil cut off that aid. Track the mosques. If they affiliate with the Deobandi movement close them, no ifs ands or buts! Knowing that their citizens committing jihad when "visiting" America will bring sure punishment to their wallets will give incentive to discourage such practices.

We in this country constantly hear that the vast majority of believers in Islam are a peaceful people. It may be true. but still their Koran contains passages that incite believers to do evil against us non-believers.

It may be time for the Muslim world to call a convention and make changes to their sacred Koran. Christians did just such a thing at the Council of Nicaea in the year 325. Newly converted to Christianity Constantine, Emperor of the Roman Empire, called together a delegation of all the influential Christians of the time, the Bishops from all over the Roman Empire, and they hammered out the writings that were to be included in our Bible. Those writings that didn't convey the true meaning of Christianity were labeled as Apocrypha and not included in the Bible. The time for a similar change in the Muslim world has come.

That is how I saw it.

  • I agree with you Dick, but, I don't believe we can do anything about the Muslim problem, as, in a way, what they think and do is almost within the rules of our Constitution, BOR First Amendment, and our Democratic voting, where the 'side' with the greatest votes, be those votes, be voluntary, or generated by fear/terrorism, wins. We would need change our Constitution, and Bill of Rights. Either way, we lose, and can never go back to what we have lost, it seems. Someone else may be able to figure out a way to deal with them, other than violent extraction, but I can't think of any, at this time.
