McCOOK, Neb. --Michael "Mike" August Schiffelbein passed away Thursday (May 28, 2015) at his home in McCook surrounded by his family, after a long fought battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was 63 years old.

Mike was born on May 13, 1952, at Garden City, Kansas, to parents, Casper "Cap" John and Madelon Rose (Winters) Schiffelbein.

He graduated from Garden City High School in 1971 and continued his education at Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business.

He was united in marriage to Linda S. McCosh on June 5, 1976. To this union two children were born, Robin and Thatcher. They eventually located to the McCook, Nebraska, community in 1988 where Mike was employed at AmFirst Bank. He was employed there until his health would not permit him to work.

Mike was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Rotary. He was an avid golfer and was a volunteer helper during the Ron Coleman Horse Race as well as a participant in the Community Hospital Pro Am Golf Tournament with his family.

He had a love for the outdoors which included hiking, camping, and fishing to name a few. He volunteered countless hours with youth sponsoring CYO ski trips and coaching baseball. He took great pride in renovating homes especially their last one in 2000 where they incorporated the help of the McCook High School football boys. With the help of his children's friends, an everlasting relationship that continued through the years and resulted in a Lied Mainstreet award for Mike.

The highlight of his days was spending time with his two grandsons.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Cap and Madelon Schiffelbein and brother, Rod Schiffelbein.

He is survived by his wife, companion, and caregiver, Linda Schiffelbein of McCook; children Robin and husband, Matthew Campbell, of McCook and Thatcher Schiffelbein and fiancé, Sarah Kennedy, of Scottsdale, AZ; two grandsons, Talyn and Tristin Campbell of McCook; three brothers, Pat of Stem, NC, Tim (Layne) of Garden City, KS, and Stan (Kate) of Colorado Springs, CO; five sisters, Deb Hays (Kelly), Chris Hands (Wayne), Beth Nelson (Tim), all of Garden City, KS, Margaret Miller (Tom) of Ingalls, KS, and Sally Bogner (Jake) of Yukon, OK; step-mother, Norma Schiffelbein of Turon, KS; step-sisters, Cherie Baar (Steve) of Turon, KS and DeeAnn Pothier (Bruno) of Manitou Springs, CO; special friends and care-givers; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Rosary will be recited on Sunday, June 14, 2015, at 7:00 p.m., at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook, Nebraska.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 15, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook with Father Gary Brethour as celebrant. A private family inurnment will be at a later time.
