Christian comedian Ken Davis to appear at Southern Valley
ORLEANS, Neb. -- Comedian Ken Davis insists it's no joke that he first started making people laugh in high school as a method of self defense.
"I wasn't very athletic, so when the neighborhood bullies came around I had to use my head to survive. I found it was much easier to make people laugh," he said this week prior to his upcoming comedy concert on Friday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. at Southern Valley Schools Gymnasium south of Oxford, Neb.
Born with a congenital defect that later was corrected by surgery, the sense of humor that protected him from harm is now a tool for motivating the spirit.
"Ken Davis Fully Alive" is the newest version of a comedy act that for years has entertained audiences from coast to coast. And though audiences usually head homeward from his concert with their ribs sore from laughing, they also walk away uplifted with a newer, fresher view of life.
And let's face it, Davis is very funny.
How can you not laugh at someone who loves to sit on his motorcycle at the road's edge near his home and point his wife's hairdryer at oncoming cars, then enjoys the smell of burning rubber generated from people slamming on their brakes?
Davis responds to people who ask how he got started by saying: "The doctor slapped me and said, 'It's a boy!'"
But it was in Denver's comedy clubs, sharing billing with such funny people as Rosanne, Tim (The Tool Man) Allen, and Louie Anderson where he really honed his comedy skills. From there, he quickly moved on as an opening act with Ray Charles, Ben Vereen, Judy Collins, Carol King and other musical artists.
All of this is rolled into the rich tapestry that is Ken Davis humor. He spins a joke with such skill and clean humor that he is one of the country's most sought-after comedy artists.
And yes, you can bring the kids. Davis' sidesplitting act inspires and delights audiences of all ages.
