OBERLIN, Kan. -- Walter H. May, 90, died Thursday (July 10, 2014) at Community Hospital in McCook, Neb.

He was born Nov. 17, 1923, at Decatur County, Kan., to Theodore May and Frieda Voelker.

He was raised on the family farm west of Oberlin and graduated from Decatur Community High School.

On Oct. 26, 1952, he married Betty Hillman at Cheney, Kan., and the couple resided on a farm west of Oberlin before moving into town.

He was a farmer and rancher, as well as a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Kansas Crop Improvement Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore May and Frieda Voelker, and brother Wilbur May.

Survivors include his wife Betty May of Oberlin; four sons, Richard and wife Delayne May of Lawrence, Kan., Robert and wife Sally May of Oberlin, Roland and wife Pam May of Oberlin and Roger and wife Susan May of Oberlin; one daughter, Rhonda May and husband Dan Nedland of Oberlin; two sisters, Lois Behrmann of Orange, Calif., and Lillian Rutsch of Vista, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandson and 7 step-great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services are Monday, July 14, 2014, 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oberlin the Rev. Brad Rick officiating. Interment to follow at Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation is Sunday, 1-8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin, and 8 a.m. until service time at St. John's Lutheran Church.

A memorial fund has been established to St. John's Lutheran Church.

Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin is in charge of the arrangements.
