Radio station changes format

Friday, May 30, 2014

McCOOK, Neb. -- At 3 p.m. today, (Friday, May 30th) KZMC-FM radio in McCook owned by Legacy Communications LLC changed formats

from HARD ROCK to Classic Country, according to Jesse Stevens, Operations Manager.

Stevens said "the demand for a Classic Country format is at an all-time high in our region." He added that the station's 9 O'Clock Request hour on sister station KIOD (Coyote Country 105.3) has been flooded with requests from the '80s and '90s Country Artists as of late, and that a switch to a full-time Classic Format just made sense.

The station will be playing artists like George Strait, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson and artists that date back as far as the 1960s.

The Dee Jay line includes a new morning show from National Personalities BIG D & BUBBA that will begin airing on Monday, June 2; the station also will continue to air it's Agriculture talk show's Agri-Talk at 10 a.m. and Market Rally at 3 p.m.

Legacy Communications LLC who operates as Hometown Family Radio in McCook also operates sister stations KIOD Coyote Country 105.3 and 93.9 FM The Zone.

  • Great. Now I have nothing to listen to in McCook. Way to lose an entire audience of rock listeners.

  • Just another reason to buy XM.

  • This is great! I really have noticed the complete shortage of country music in this area. Z102 has been tanking since they dumped Todd and Tyler. Get back to the old format, TNT in the morning, hard rock the rest of the day.

  • I REALLY have to agree with fit2btied and robpercival, we have one radio station around here that is not teenage pop, crap rap, or country, thanks for taking that and forcing me to go satellite. and remember...shop local, everybody wins!!

  • Radio is FREE to listen to but the station does not run for free. Perhaps those who are upset about the change in format would like to purchase the advertising airtime it takes to pay for the music format they desire. Business is business and the advertising is what pays the bills. If local businesses don't want to spend their money advertising on a particular format, something has to give.

  • swne farmer has it right. The kind of guy that listened to the old Z102 probably doesn't have the disposable income to support local advertisers. All we can afford is a pack of smokes and a six pack.

  • I can't buy the shoes I want. I can't buy the pants I want. Or even the shirts I want. Now I can't even listen to the music I like. No wonder this area continues to die out. It's almost like the only market is the retired class.
