Gwendline 'Rose' Springer

KEARNEY, Neb. -- Gwendline "Rose" Springer, age 89, formerly of Cozad, passed away May 20, 2014, at St. John's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney.

Rose was born March 26, 1925, at Lebanon, Nebraska, to Harry and Gertrude (McCashland) Larson. Rose graduated from Lebanon High School in 1943. On July 30, 1949, Rose married Donald Springer at Atwood, Kansas. The couple moved to Ogallala in 1951 and then to Cozad in 1956, where she worked at the Dixie Inn for 35 years as a cook. Rose was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bingo, and loved spending time with her family.

She was a member of the Cozad Christian Church.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Donald.

Survivors include four sons, Gerald (Alice) Springer of Dunning, Frank Springer of Omaha, Harry Springer of Cozad, Terry (Dianne) Lamb of Kearney; daughter Cheryl (Chuck) Doudney of Cozad; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and half sister-in-law, Tena Wimer of McCook.

Graveside memorial services will be held Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with Pastor Jeremy Jech officiating. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home. A memorial has been established in her memory for later designation.
