Doris Eileen (Tompkins) Thielbar

LINCOLN, Nebraska -- Doris Eileen (Tompkins) Thielbar of Lincoln, NE, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at the age of 82.

Doris was born June 5, 1931, in Livingston, Montana,, to Leroy and Ethel (Slagle) Tompkins. The family lived in Yellowstone National Park, where her father was employed by the National Park Service. When Doris was 8 years old, they moved to the family farm near Farragut, Iowa. She graduated from Farragut High School in 1949. Following high school, Doris attended nursing school in Omaha, Nebraska. She later worked as a receptionist at a medical clinic in Shenandoah, Iowa. She met Max Thielbar at a wedding in 1953 and they were united in marriage Nov. 28, 1954.

The couple made their home in Lincoln, where Max was employed by the Nebraska Department of Roads. Doris was a homemaker, a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed being an Avon representative. They were blessed with two children, daughter, Lisa and son, Les.

Doris enjoyed reading, listening to classical music, traveling, playing Shanghai with neighbors, watching her grandson's activities and laughing with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Stanley Tompkins and brother-in-law, Virgil Price.

She is survived by her husband, Max of Lincoln; daughter, Lisa Koziol and Greg Dana of Lincoln, son, Les, Lory Cappel, and grandsons Zachary and Joshua, all of Roselle, Illinois; brother, Alan Tompkins and wife Nancy of Aurora, Nebrask;, sister-in-law, Alice Tompkins of York, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Melvin Thielbar and wife, Carlotta of McCook; sister-in-law, Joyce Price of Norcatur, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Doris' Life is Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, 11 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lincoln. A private inurnment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. Lincoln Family Funeral Care is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Building Fund of Trinity United Methodist Church, 7130 Kentwell Lane, Lincoln, NE 68516.
