Mike Brodie, left, and Wes Bertch of Omaha, Nebraska, display the 4x4 deer they shot Monday morning south of McCook. The men said they saw a lot of deer, "but," Bertch added, "no pheasants." Pheasant season runs through Jan. 31, 2014. This morning, Red Willow County Sheriff Gene Mahon reported 457 deer checked in since the deer firearm season opened at sunrise Saturday. Kirk Andrews, of the wildlife division of Nebraska Game and Parks at Medicine Creek, said he has seen "a lot of mature deer," with several 6- and 7-point deer.
