Dan Stramel, left, Maggie Repass and Duane Tappe stand behind a new park bench positioned in front of the American flag at McCook Senior High. Stramel and Tappe, members of McCook American Legion Post 203, said the Legion purchased the bench with funds remaining after the Legion collected donations to sponsor and host the American Veterans Traveling Tribute (AVTT) "Traveling Vietnam Wall" in McCook in May. Repass acted as a main coordinator and a point of contact with AVTT. Stramel said the Legion was happy to give back to the school for allowing the Wall to be set up at Weiland Football Field. Excess funds were also used to finance a college scholarship for MHS graduate Javier Beltran and to help the campaign of Mike Helm of Lebanon, who is running for National Commander of the American Legion. The bench is designed and built by JLB Welding of McCook.
