Monday, August 19, 2013

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Almost one year after the historic groundbreaking for McCook Community College's Events Center, college officials are inviting members of the public to a Time Capsule Ceremony to commemorate the event and thank the community.

The ceremony is set for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Events Center. College officials have been compiling items to place in the time capsule, which will be opened in 2063.

More than 40 items have been collected and sealed including: USB files of newspaper articles covering the building plans, groundbreaking and grand opening ceremony; an electronic fundraising booklet; sports media guides; photographs; history books; the first commencement ceremony in the Events Center and the final one in True Hall. Fundraising booklets and DVDs will be sealed as well as a piece of the ribbon from ribbon cutting, and other documents linked to the Grand Opening.

Tuesday's ceremony will include remarks from college officials as well as members of the local Masonic bodies.
