Officers regroup at the west Casey's convenience store Thursday afternoon after a knife-wielding man was subdued with a Taser after refusing to pay for merchandise. McCook police officers responded to the call at 704 West B at about 4:20 p.m. and were held at bay by the man, who had a 7-inch long bayonet-like knife, according to a news release. Officers called for backup and attempted to gain compliance, but the man continued to resist until a Taser was deployed and the man was taken into custody following a brief struggle. As a precaution, he was taken by ambulance to Community Hospital for evaluation. Some officers reportedly received minor injuries during the struggle and were treated and released at the scene. Police Chief Isaac Brown expressed thanks to his officers as well as members of the Red Willow County Sheriff's Office, Nebraska State Patrol and McCook Fire Department for "their roles in safely and effectively bringing an end to a dangerous situation."
