Upstairs, downstairs

Thursday, February 14, 2013

Eilene Pollmann models a sparkly beret in her mother Courtney Pollmann's downtown-McCook, Nebraska, shop, "The Loft." Courtney opened her shop in the loft of Accents Etc., at 307 Norris Avenue on the bricks in November 2011, fine-tuned the shop's eclectic vintage/primitive atmosphere and outgrew her floor space in 2012, and plans to expand into the main floor in 2013. While "The Loft" will remain open upstairs with its antiques, collectibles and vintage clothing, the "downstairs" location will assume the name "DaisyToad's" and incorporate more consignments, more furniture, more architectural salvage, paper ephemera and vintage craft supplies, Courtney says. She also plans to co-op with Accents Etc. owner Betty Kenner, and use some of her "treasures" to complement displays throughout Betty's store. Courtney hopes to have the transition completed by mid-summer and plans an open house then. Courtney's projects are on Facebook -- look for updated pictures and sale information. Accents Etc. is located on the east side of Norris Avenue, between Brown's Shoe Fit and El Puerto. It is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The phone number is (308) 345-7480. Betty celebrated the 22nd anniversary of Accents Etc. during summer of 2012.
