Sorority pledges at UNK include local students
KEARNEY, Nebraska -- Sororities at the University of Nebraska at Kearney have announced the names of 138 fall pledges
The number of students signed up for recruitment was up 21 percent from last year, and the number of students who received bids was up by 12 percent, according to Erin Christensen, assistant director of Greek Affairs.
This year included a major change as recruitment occurred during the school year rather than in the week before classes started.
"In previous years, recruitment has traditionally been held the week before classes started," Christensen said. "This year, recruitment occurred three weeks into the semester. This gave Panhellenic an opportunity to market the experience more. There are challenges every year with recruitment, and this year went as expected: no easier, no harder."
Throughout the recruitment weekend, potential new members visited each chapter, and recruitment counselors planned evening activities for the participants.
"There are several benefits to women being involved in the UNK Panhellenic community that span beyond their time at UNK," Christensen said. "Joining a sorority opens a lot of doors for women to other organizations they may not have previously thought of."
