OMAHA, Nebraska -- The Amtrak Police Department is investigating a missing passenger who disappeared somewhere between Denver, Colorado, and Chicago, Illinois, over the weekend. The man, 69-year-old Charlie Dowd of San Mateo, California, was aboard an Amtrak train bound for Montreal that made several overnight stops along the way, including McCook, Holdrege, Hastings, Lincoln and Omaha.

According to an AP report, Dowd's son spoke with him via cellphone on Thursday evening when the train was in the Denver area, the last time family members talked with him. Dowd's luggage, cellphone and medication arrived in Chicago without him on Friday. Family members have said they are worried he may become disoriented without his medication.

Dowd is a retired firefighter who is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds.

According to a missing persons report, police investigators were confirming reports that Dowd had spoken with Amtrak conductors late Thursday evening and early Friday morning near Omaha. During the Friday incident, Dowd reportedly expressed confusion pertaining to his whereabouts and said he believed he was in an apartment, not on a train, and needed to find the front door.

A Facebook page dedicated to the incident, Missing Person: Charlie Dowd, has asked for Omaha residents to meet at the train station at 3 p.m. today, Sept. 17, to aid in a physical search and posting of flyers.
