... put up a parking lot

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Debra Petsch and her dad, Wendell Peters, of P&G Excavating, McCook, Nebraska, clear out debris Tuesday from the one-story frame house they demolished north of the McCook Public Library at 802 Norris Avenue. In the basement of the house, Wendell said, they discovered a very solid storm cellar with cement walls and a cement roof. The McCook Library Foundation purchased the house and lot, owned by the late Lawrence and Camilla Orvis, and gifted it to the City of McCook in late 2011. City council members indicated in December that they have no plans for the lot right now, but it would be ideal for parking and/or future library expansion. A large portion of the lot north of the Orvis lot is owned by the city; Michael and Michelle Gonzales, of 810 Norris Avenue, own 15 feet on the north side.
