BENKELMAN, Nebraska -- Robert Gerald Ambrosek, age 71, passed away on Jan. 17, 2012, at the Dundy County Hospital, only 30 days after having been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Robert was born on April 22, 1940, the second of a set of identical twin boys at Imperial, Nebraska, to Gerald Andrew Ambrosek and Eva Emma Tepley Ambrosek. Until the age of two, they resided north of Benkelman, Nebraska, on the old Wright place. In 1942, the family moved to the place that was to become the family farm in northwest Dundy County.

Robert attended country school at District 56 in Dundy County. He graduated from high school in Imperial, Nebraska, in 1958. In the fall of 1958, he enrolled in the University of Nebraska Lincoln where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Sciences and Agricultural Education. Robert was a member of the FarmHouse Fraternity. He was granted an assistantship in Forage Physiology and worked toward a Master's Degree.

In the fall of 1964, he was called and offered a position in Agriculture Education at Imperial High School. He accepted this position and taught in Imperial for two years after which he took a teaching position at Haigler High School. His 33 years in education was completed in Haigler and Dundy County High School in Benkelman. He enjoyed many of the activities associated with teaching such as coaching. He especially enjoyed girls' volleyball and track.

While attending graduate school, he met and married Rose Marie Morris. To this union four children were born.

On Jan. 16, 1987, he married Christina Eversole and they enjoyed their years together on the farm north of Haigler where many happy times were spent with the grandchildren and family. His years on the farm allowed him to pursue his love of farming, ranching and gardening.

Robert was an advocate for water conservation and served 30 years on the Upper Republican Board of Directors. He also served on the Governor's Task Force and as an advisory position on water conservation for Farm Bureau. It was his firm belief that the water resource should be saved so that future generations could enjoy its benefit as the present generation had.

Robert is survived by his wife, Christina; step-son, Shane Eversole and wife, Amy; and grandchildren, Kyle, Sydney, Kelly and Trystin Eversole, who all reside on or near the family farm.

Also surviving are children, Rhonda Cunningham and husband, Craig and their three children, Jared, Blake and Alysha of Orange Park, Florida; and sons, Robert Darren Ambrosek and Ragan Drew Ambrosek of Virginia Beach, Virginia; twin brother, Richard Ambrosek and wife, Elva May of Idaho Falls, Idaho; sister, Janet Ambrosek of Omaha; brothers, Leslie Ambrosek and wife, Sonia of rural Haigler, Mark Ambrosek and wife, Yolanda also of rural Haigler. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and a daughter, Renee Lynn Ambrosek.

In keeping with Robert's wishes, there will be no services as he preferred everyone remember him in life rather than death. Cards and memorials will reach the family at P. O. Box 2, Haigler, NE 69030.
