Robert V. 'Bob' Chambers

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Robert V. "Bob" Chambers, age 82, of McCook, passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at the Community Hospital in McCook.

Bob was born Jan. 11, 1929, in a farm house in Decatur County Kansas, Northwest of Norcatur in Lincoln Township to parents John W. and Seletha M. (McIntyre) Chambers. He was one of six children born to the union.

Bob grew up on the family's farm and attended his first four years of school at Prairie View School District 83. He then spent next four years at Rocky Mountain School in Grant Township. Bob completed his education at Decatur Community High School in Oberlin, Kansas, graduating in 1947. Following high school, in 1948, Bob married Donna McKenna and they became the parents of eight children, currently seven survive.

Bob was employed by El-Mar Dairy in Oberlin for two years before his 17 year employment with Hamilton Oil Company. In 1972, he and his family moved to McCook where he began Chambers' Plumbing, his own plumbing and heating and air conditioning business.

Bob married Delores Ambrosier in McCook on Feb. 14, 1992. He continued in the family business until retirement. At that time, Bob and Delores began renovating and remodeling rental property.

Bob enjoyed building things for their properties, gardening and digging in the dirt. He was also a chaplin for the McCook Eagles Club.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister, and one infant child.

Bob is survived by his wife, Delores Chambers of McCook; four sons, Jerry and wife, Frani Chambers of McCook, Robert W. and wife, Julie Chambers of Houston, Texas, Don and wife, Mary Jo Chambers of Hays, Kansas and Doug and wife, Rhonda Chambers of Asheville, North Carolina; three daughters, Janet and husband, Dick Haag of Indianola, Nebraska, Barbara Higgins and friend, Cary Chiaverini of Overland Park, Kansas and Anita Chambers of McCook. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, Delores's children, Carla, Denise, Paula, Mindy, and James, several nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, Oct. 31, 2011 from 1-8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, also at Carpenter Breland Home, at 10:30 a.m. with Richard Karr officiating.

Burial will follow in the Oberlin Cemetery in Oberlin, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be given in Bob's name to the donor's choice.
