Robbery suspects in custody

COMMERCE CITY, Colorado -- Two teenagers suspected of the armed robbery of a Cambridge, Nebraska, liquor store are in custody in Colorado.

They were apprehended early Wednesday morning in Commerce City, according to the Furnas County (Nebraska) sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office believed that the suspects had traveled to Colorado after gathering information of possible associations that one of the suspects had to the Colorado area.

Colorado Agencies were very helpful in attempts to locate the suspects within their area, and eventually had contact with the two juveniles and arrested them on the Furnas County Felony Warrant, according to a release.

While the suspects were arrested without incident, two handguns were found inside the stolen vehicle, and both were loaded with a live round in the chamber.

Both suspects are being held in Colorado at a juvenile lock-down facility and after extradition to Nebraska will be tried on charges of robbery, a Class II Felony, use of a weapon to commit a felony which is a Class II Felony, possession of stolen property (firearm) which is a Class IV Felony and unlawful possession of a handgun which is a class III Misdemeanor.

A class II Felony carries a maximum of 50 years imprisonment and minimum of one year.

A Class IV Felony carries a maximum of five years imprisonment, or $10,000 fine, or both and there is no minimum penalty.

A Class III Misdemeanor carries a maximum of three months imprisonment, or $500 fine, or both and no minimum penalty.

  • This could be a learning experience for me, but I have two questions that I would like to ask in an unbiased fashion as possible: how can the Gazette post these two juveniles' pictures on one hand while witholding names on the other? If they are juveniles, this article appears to already be trying them as adults based on the charges listed above. Okay, that was one question and the latter was a statement.

  • I'm guessing if law enforcement is searching for suspects wanted in an armed robbery, then the need to apprehend the individuals is more important than hiding their identity.
