Bison boys win Holdrege golf meet
HOLDREGE -- Three individuals finishing in the top eight helped the McCook High School boys finish off the rest of the field in the Holdrege Invitational golf meet Tuesday, April 27.
The Bison topped 12 other teams for top honors at the 18-hole competition played Tuesday at the Holdrege Country Club. McCook carded a low team score of 318 stroke. The Grand Island High junior varsity finished three shots back, followed by Hastings with a 324 and Grand Island Central Catholic with a 329.
"I was very pleased with the team score and individuals who managed to score some very respectable numbers," said McCook golf coach Rich Haney. "It was a very nice day for the tournament. Our kids moved forward as a team and it was very nice to score below 320."
Cory Dallam led the Bison with a 77, good for fifth place in the individual standings. Sean Backer carded a 78 for sixth place. Drew Shields came in with a 79 to place ninth. Ben Vetrovsky and Alan Goodenberger each shot 84 to round out McCook's scoring.
The Bison are scheduled to visit Ogallala next Monday to compete against the Indians and North Platte starting at 4 p.m. McCook is set to compete in the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference (GNAC) meet at the Lake Maloney Golf Course Friday, May 7.
