Earnest "Ernie" Richard Fischer, formally of McCook died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at the Southlake Nursing Home in Jacksonville, Fla. He was 95 years old.

Ernie was born March 15, 1914 to Robert E. and Jane (Hebrink) Fischer at Firth, Neb.

He graduated from Dewitt High School. On May 11, 1940, he married Maxine Ellen Abernathy at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook. To this union four children were born: Mary, David, Terrance and Barbara.

He and Maxine had Fishers Toys and Ice Cream for many years. Ernie was Boy Scout leader, sponsored many baseball teams through the years and enjoyed all kids, but especially enjoyed his children and their activities. "His life was his kids!"

Ernie was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knight. He was also a member of the VFW.

Survivors include: his wife, Maxine; daughter Mary Law, son David and wife Rosemary Fischer all of Jacksonville, Fla.; son, Terry Fischer of Texas and daughter Barb and husband, Bill Elliott of McCook; seven grandchildren, Wesley, Michelle, Nicole, Joe, Billie, Steven and Jon; and 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and three sisters; and a granddaughter, Debbie Law.

Memorials are being accepted in his name.

Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday until time of the rosary. Friends and family may also leave condolences at www.carpenterbreland.com

Rosary will be Thursday at 6 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Friday Nov. 6, 2009, at 10 a.m. with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Neb. at 2 p.m.
