Final game stats and report will be in Mondays Gazette.

  • yeah all the offensive production...

  • Tough loss but don't let this one game define you. Learn from it and come back and start another streak. Your a great bunch of kids keep your chins up and I know that it doesn't seem like it but it was a game you gave 100% and you have nothing to feel bad about. Good luck the rest of the season and everything else you do in life.

  • After the game on KICX, the coach told Rich that "Aurora was good, but not that good, they're not world class beaters" Ummm. Jeff. Your team just lost by 38 points at Weiland. They must be pretty good, or maybe we're not that good this year? Lose with a little class and dignity, give credit where credit is due.

  • Name one time this team has had ANY CLASS in the last 5 years... THAT'S MCCOOK FOOTBALL... they didn't just get beat, they got DESTROYED! This team thinks they are good because of last year's squad.... They have no pass protection no o line and can't throw to save their lives... P.S. Aurora is a very very good football team.

  • The people I would question having "class" are those who anonymously post mean spirited comments about teenagers & their coaches who have done nothing but work hard & make their families & supporters proud. What you should understand is that any team is beatable. There are no for sure wins or losses when you are talking about high school sports. McCook has been fortunate to win several games over several years. It's such a shame you can't just be supportive or at least keep your comments to yourself!

  • Seeing published comments downplaying the team that beat you by saying they weren't anything special or that they weren't a good team is called being a sore loser and sadly most these comments were being made by the coaches who are supposed to set a good example

  • What I heard was the coach say that Aurora was good, but not as good as the score indicated. I think he was letting his team know that they beat themselves by making mistakes and missing assignments. What I heard was a good coach using this loss as a teaching moment for his players. I think he wanted his team to understand that if they play to their abilities, they could beat a team like Aurora, because their playoff hopes are not lost -- they may be playing Aurora again.

This is probably the same type of talk the Aurora coach used last year when McCook beat Aurora 42-7 in the regular season! They came back and beat us in the playoffs and took the State championship!

S&DC, if you were the coach, would you have said, "Gee, Aurora is great and I don't really think we have a chance against their speed and size"?

And as for wanting us to name a time in the last five years when this team had any class -- there are hundreds of examples. I'm sure a few had some reaction to a disappointing loss, but don't condemn the entire roster of 58 players for the actions of a few highly emotional KIDS. Even though I don't have a kid on this team, I have had kids on other MHS athletic teams (different sports) and I'm proud of them and all of the sports programs at MHS!

  • You tell 'em mom, S&DC go crawl back in your hole.

Evidently you have not read letters to the editor over the years regarding the McCook football team and their coaches. There have been many complimenting the team and coaches on their sportsmanship and manners. I agree with mom, the coach was not so much tearing down the Aurora team, but trying to get his team's chin up. These KIDS, S&DC,are not supermen.

    Very good post whoopie.

  • What is more important here is that people need to step back and see what they're doing to these kids. Everyday and especially at game all I see is crazy lunatic idol worship of highschool kids from adults. It's pretty insane and rediculous at the same time.

People need to realize that these are just kids playing a game! So many people in this town put the success of this team as one of the biggest priorties in their lives and that manifests itself into huge pressure on these kids to win at all costs. They know this because of all the attention, press, and radio these kids get these days and they know that so many people are depending on them for thier mental livelihood.

It's easy to get caught up it all when your team is winning games left and right, then you get into a mentallity that you just expect them to win no matter what.

I heard last week that you were not "true" fan unless you truely believe the Bison would be victorious over Aurora. Well, I had my serious doubts. I know this team is prbably not as good as the team before and Aurora may be better than they were last last year.

I still went to the gane with the whole family and cheered the Bison on. That is what a true fan does, supports your team. A true fan is not someone that heaps an unfair burden of false hope and false priorities on these HS kids.

I also heard the poor comments coming from fans in the illustrious North stadium directed at the QB. Some were very bad. I bet they are very good form the same people when this kid is doing well, but when he's doing bad they were cursing him aloud and belittling him.

If those people need that kind of drama in their life then go scream at an NFL player instead of HS kids for ****** sake.

I'm glad when I was in HS I didn't have loser McCook fans like that screaming at me when I made mistakes at every turn in front of the whole town. HS is hard enough, and so is growing up. The last thing kids need is losers like the ones that show up at Weiland Field and worship kids when they are doing well and cursing them aloud when they make mistakes.

  • The thing i like most about your post justin is that they read that stupid sportsmanship announcement before the games and mccook fans are the first ones to cross that line...

I was at the game and within five minutes of getting there I hear some of the parents talking about how fat and lazy Andrew Rodriguez (Husker recruit from Aurora) is. It is sad and pathetic.

  • Justin76 and/or S&DC since you heard the things being said in the stands did you say anything to the people making the comments? I never once while on the field of play could tell what the crowd was yelling. I how ever as a fan and parent have no trouble telling out of line older people (can't call them adults or fans) to be quite. If you don't like the north side come set on the south side so you can hear what the opposing fans have to say. Good luck Bison and win or lose leave it all on the field, court, links, stage, classroom, or what ever your arena of choice is.

  • DDT,

It's not my job to babysit that many adults at one time. I'm not even sure what the point of your blog was other than to make ME the bad guy since I didn't go into the stand to shut people up. Like I said, that's not my job.

    -- Posted by Justin76 on Thu, Sep 17, 2009, at 8:09 AM
  • especially when or if mccook is losing because they become hostile... in my thinking it may not be safe to put yourself in a situation surrounded by angry fans trying to tell them to shut up..

  • This is supposed to be high school sports - not the NCAA, NFL or anything else. These kids are supposed to learn to work together as a team, support each other and have fun doing it. I heard about all the comments directed at the QB during the Aurora game and I live in FL! People who yell that kind of stuff at coaches or players from the stands have no class and probably never participated in HS sports themselves. These kids are 15, 16, 17 and 18 year olds; many have things more important than football going on in their lives, yet they show up week in and week out to provide a good game for the fans and honor their school with good sportsmanship and class. Don't lump this group with teams from the past - the coach doesn't. He knows what he has and he works with it. I listened to the first pre-game show of the year and Coach Gross said Chad Stull ran the option better than "dare I say (Coach Gross's words) Matt Berry". Give these kids a chance to put their own mark on Bison football. It may not turn out to be what you've had in the past 7 or 8 years, but know this -- these kids leave everything on the field and they don't deserve comments like those spouted during the Aurora game!
