OBERLIN -- John H. Ready, 93, died Tuesday (Sept. 8, 2009) at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.

He was born Dec. 11, 1915, in rural Tenney, Minn., to Raymond and Esther (Newman) Ready. He grew up in Tenney and attended grade school and high school there. He went on to attend Morris State College in Morris, Minn., and St. Louis Mortuary School.

He entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. On Dec. 24, 1949, he married Muriel Conard in Larned, Kan. They lived in Larned, before moving to Oberlin 1956, where he was a mortician.

He was a member of the Oberlin United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge and Oberlin American Legion Post No. 70.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Muriel on Jan. 28, 2009; brothers, Wilbur "Bill" Ready and Duane Ready; and sister, Elaine Kinker.

Survivors include his daughter, Esther Ready and husband, David Chomowicz of New York, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Esther Beer of Larned and Arleen Ready of Rapid City, S.D.; and one grandson.

Funeral services will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Doug Hasty officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m., until time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the Good Samaritan Center or Last Indian Raid Museum of Oberlin.
