COLBY, Kan. -- Florence Vavroch, 80, died Wednesday (July 22, 2009) at Prairie Senior Living Complex in Colby.

She was born July 1, 1929, in McCook to Jesse W. and Grace D. (Lincoln) Hawkins. She grew up in Cedar Bluffs and attended Decatur Comminty High School and graduated in 1948.

On Aug. 12, 1956, she married Edward Vavroch in Oberlin. They lived on a farm near Oberlin until moving into Oberlin in 1996. She worked as a secretary for the Decatur County Extension Service.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Colby, Zeta Nu Club and American Legion Auxiliary, both of Oberlin.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Grace Hawkins and husband, Edward Vavroch on Nov. 4, 1994.

Survivors include her son, John Vavroch and fiancee, Martina Parks of Colby; daughter, Dianne and husband, Dan Waldo of Overland Park, Kan.; sister-in-law, June Vavroch of Hays, Kan.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church in Oberlin with the Rev. Dana Clark officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation will be today until 8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with a vigil service at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be given to Citizens Medlai Center and Prairie Senior Living Complex.
