Billy F. Shafer died Friday, April 24, 2009, at his home in McCook at the age of 74.

He was born Sept. 25, 1934, in St. Joseph, Mo., the son of the late Edward and Josephine (Schmidt) Shafer. He grew up at St. Joseph, where he attended St. Patrick's High School.

On Sept. 26, 1952, Billy married Pauline Geyer in Arkansas.They made their home at St. Joseph before moving to Kansas City, Mo., in 1954. They moved to McCook in 1960, where he completed his GED and was working for Hollow Stone Concrete in McCook. He began working for Dayco Electric Hose in 1979, retiring in 1999.

Both Pauline and Billy enjoyed playing pool and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Billie Diane Shafer.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Shafer of McCook; three sons, Robert Shafer and wife, Leanne of Lincoln, Michael Shafer and Ricky Shafer and wife, Dianne both of McCook; two daughters, Joan Stemper and husband, Art of McCook and Susan Shafer of California; 13 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Steve Bales officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Memorials may be given in his name and visitation will be today until 9 p.m., and Tuesday until time of services at the funeral home.
