E. Dale Schrader, 82, of McCook, formerly of Benkelman, passed away Feb. 19, 2009, in Coolidge, Ariz.

He was born in Dundy County, Neb., at the farm home on Dec. 31, 1926, to August and Pearl Schrader. He attended the country school near his home through eighth grade and graduated from Benkelman High School.

On June 8, 1947, he married Beth Hester in Benkelman, Neb., and to this union two children were born, Linley Sue and Robert Dale.

He farmed, had a crop insurance business and a seed business. He served on the District 8 country school and the Benkelman Public School school boards. He was the Lutheran Sunday School superintendent, president of the Dundy County Farm Bureau and the Benkelman Jaycees.

He received the Aksarben "Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award -- 100 Year Farm." After retiring from the farm they moved to McCook and continued to winter in Arizona.

He enjoyed his wood working, playing horseshoes and cribbage and making his homemade ice cream.

He is survived by his wife, Beth of McCook; daughter, Linley Brown and husband, Jim of Holdrege, Neb.; son, Robert of Denver, Colo.; granddaughter, Wendy Cox and husband, Chad of Omaha, Neb.; great-granddaughter, Brianna Cox; great-grandson, Chance Cox; and brother, Vernon Schrader and wife, Esther of Benkelman.

He is also survived by nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or Campus Life Youth Ministry.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, 9 a.m. CST at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Pastor John Strecker-Baseler and 11 a.m. MST in Benkelman at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor George Matthews officiating. Burial will be in the Benkelman Cemetery.
